Gareth Edwards is the new director of the new Jurassic World film. I wonder if he will keep Giacchino, use Zimmer, or someone else.
I somehow doubt that Zimmer would want to do Jurassic Park, as it’s one of Williams’ classics but it could be very interesting for sure, depending what direction the movie goes in. I enjoyed Gia’s work on the World movies so that would be a good choice as well.
I have a similar feeling. If this was directly after The Lost World, I doubt Zimmer will even consider. But since it is a brand new restart, and Gia already provided some distance from Williams, he may see it as an opportunity to do things his way. Who knows.
Bad idea bringing in Michael Giacchino. He’s already done his Jurassic movies, which were really good, but I think this film will take things in a new direction and so they need a new guy. I’ll be so thrilled if they announce Hans Zimmer, but I was also thinking they could bring in Ludwig because of what he did for the Mandalorian, which is significant because the precedent was John William’s style.
If have to choose, Desplat would me my first choice.
Also, don’t mind if is Zimmer or Giacchino, they make his best with Edwards (Rogue One is great and The Creator is magnificent)
I think Hans would sleep through this project tbh
I hope he chooses someone more creative. One of the weird things about The Creator was its use of music. Until the last 20 minutes or so, it was all very off-beat and almost counterproductive. It sounded like Edwards had wanted to do something different with the score but then it ended up in a weird semi-experimental start and very traditional closing. The Edwards motto is to do something different with limited resources so not sure a Giacchino standard would work here (and he does not exactly have the best of experiences with Gia after Rogue One). I also seriously doubt the use value or interest in a Hans Jurassic score, unless Universal gives them some crazy arse green light to experiment fully – don’t see what Hans would see in this. I suspect Edwards is by now limited in his options to go rogue so a big studio gig will be what it is. Probably with a Gia score. But please, don’t Balfe it up……even the idea of the banality of Balfe trying to do Williams’ themes hurts my inner core.
Experimental?
You clearly don’t know what’s the mean of that.
Edwards – thank you for that. Made my day, honestly.
Balfe’s not entirely bad, he’s just not a good fit for a big franchise like this. But yeah, considering the studio has high control over the movie, I wouldnt be surprised if they go for giacchino or a generic composer. Which would suck.
